I selected Kerry McGovern’s photo of a woman, sitting on a bench, near a pond because of the reflective nature of the photo. The woman’s eyes are closed, her head tilted back, and she appears to be lost in thought. The pond provides another layer of reflection, a reflection of the physical world. I really liked how the two go together.
Take a look at the photo and see if it triggers anything in your writing. Make up a story for this character. Who is she? Why is she there? What is she thinking about? Is this place special to her, or is she just weary of walking? Is she walking toward something, or away from something? Is she alone? Has someone walked on ahead? Is someone looking for her?
Thanks again to Kerry for the use of one of her lovely images. If you haven’t already, you should check out the blog post “Anticipating the Holidays” which featured another of her photos. And, you can see more of her photography by visiting her Caritas Photography page on Tumblr.
